Touring Area 51

I’m out on my road trip, and I get this call:

“This is the office of Robert Gates – the Secretary of Defense. We’ve been reading your blog, and are aware that you’ve been getting denied for tours at several Air Force Bases. We’d like to offer you an exclusive tour of R-4808N, I’m sure you’re aware of what that refers to.”

Needless to say I was a little shocked. How do you respond to an offer to tour an Air Force Base that doesn’t exist? What’s the catch?

*Gulp* “Yes, I’d love to a tour!”

Minuteman

The missile of course! My dad worked on them in Minot, North Dakota during the Vietnam War. The stuff is so top secret even he doesn’t remember half of it.

From talking to him on the phone today, he thinks this is a later stage of the Minuteman missile, not the entire thing. From looking at the Wikipedia article on the missiles, I would have to agree that it is the top stage of the 3 stage ICBM. Still cool to see though.

The adventure begins…

Napa Sunset

I left Napa around 6 PM yesterday, heading towards Sacramento to pick up some supplies. As expected, the traffic between the Bay Area and Sacramento is terrible during rush hour. I’m looking forward to being in places where ‘rush hour’ means there is a herd of elk in the road.
